Of the many teachers who inspired Torin, Ms. Leitze stands out the most. Ms. Leitze both set rigorous expectations for her A.P. Literature students and supported them with intensive coaching and encouragement, enabling Torin and his fellow students to become highly analytical readers and writers upon graduating high school. Plus, Ms. Leitze wore medieval English garb while teaching Chaucer; her commitment to engaging her students, through a true sense of joy, knew no bounds.
As a Program Officer, Torin leads the Global Learning Fellowship. In this annual Fellowship, public school educators develop the knowledge and skills to integrate global competency into their daily classroom instruction, advocate for global competency in their schools and districts, and help students to thrive in our increasingly interconnected world.
Before joining the Foundation, Torin served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Jordan, teaching English in urban and rural classrooms. Following the Peace Corps, Torin completed a master’s degree in International Education Policy at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Over the course of his seventeen-year career, Torin has worked in and on behalf of public schools, and he is thrilled to continue this journey in advancing global learning with the Foundation.
In his free time, Torin enjoys running, watching (and occasionally participating in) the performing arts, and enjoying D.C.’s incredible food scene.
