Bunnell High School is implementing a STEM enrichment career pathway to deepen students’ knowledge of STEM concepts and promote gender equity, equitable access, and family involvement in STEM. The electives were developed based on areas of student interest and are aligned to the Next Generation of Science Standards (NGSS). Grant funds will be used to purchase instructional materials not available due to a funding freeze. Funds will also be used to support community-based events and activities such as family STEM nights, after-school and summer STEM clubs, and internship programs for students in groups underrepresented in STEM fields, such as students of color, female students and special education students. Through these opportunities, students will acquire content knowledge, strengthen higher-order thinking skills and develop the character to address 21st-century challenges.
