Stephanie Glaser will use the grant funds to travel to Gugulethu, a township in Cape Town, South Africa, where she has a connection to a local educator. Stephanie will begin a lesson in her classroom in October teaching students about South Africa through Trevor Noah’s Born a Crime, poetry by Wayne Visser, and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s Ted Talk “Danger of a Single Story.” She will also have her students create images of happiness to take part in a “Kids are Kids” Postcards of Happiness art exchange. She will bring this artwork to Gugulethu where students there will create images of happiness, enabling an art exchange between the two classes. She will share what she learns and the artwork that is created at her school’s annual Cultural Arts Fair.
