Educators at Howell High School have a bold vision: to introduce a global learning initiative in their school next year, to become a leader in global learning in their state and to pave the way for a Global Learning endorsement to be offered in Michigan as is it is in Illinois. They propose to do this by having nine teachers and counselors work together this school year to ground themselves in the principles of global education as defined by The Asia Society, to incorporate principles of global lessons into their lessons and programs, and to visit Naperville High School in Illinois where Seth Brady is a teacher. Seth is a leader in global education and led the successful legislative effort to offer a state-level Global Education certificate in Illinois. Given the homogenous population in Howell, Michigan, and the divisions in society, educators at Howell believe that this work is critical to help students understand the perspectives of other individuals and groups.
