The vision for this project is to create a sensory space to support the wide-ranging and significant sensory, behavioral and social-emotional needs of students, especially as the district has worked to keep students with such needs at their home school rather than busing them to an alternate location. This space will be built out to contain a movement zone, decompression zone, mindfulness zone and a circle zone. It will flexibly serve many purposes, with the core mission of helping students regulate, heal and spend more time successfully participating in the general education setting. In this space, students with sensory regulation needs will learn how to use tools effectively to self-regulate with the aim of reducing the amount of time spent outside of the general education setting due to disruptive, challenging, or refusal behaviors connected to a sensory imbalance.
