This project will support Bucks for Books, part of Kettering City School’s PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) initiative implemented a few years ago. Specifically, it will allow students to exchange reward “bucks” they receive for a new book of their choosing. The merit of Bucks for Books is two-fold, building a positive school environment where good deeds and behaviors are noticed and rewarded, as well as enabling students who may not have the resources for books of their own to choose new books, hopefully strengthening their reading skills and fostering a love of reading. The books chosen for the Bucks for Books project center on the themes of self, emotional, and cultural awareness, further strengthening the school’s emphasis on individual and community well-being.
