Marissa Maggio will participate in the Ecology Project International (EPI) Educator Field Research Program on the Hawaiian island of Maui. The program is designed to expose classroom teachers to ecological field research, while at the same time equipping them with the skills to turnkey their experiences into usable lessons for their classrooms. After participating in this program, she will develop lessons and learning aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards. In preparation for the trip, she will complete a prep course and during the program teachers will work together to design and implement curricula, receive feedback from peers, and participate in activities allowing them to take on the role of students, a perspective educators sometimes overlook when designing and executing lessons.
