This project will support the creation of a STEAM lab at a South Bronx elementary school where all students are eligible for free- and reduced-price lunch and where 98% of the students are Black or Latino. With the school facing budget cuts and reduced staffing, educators yearn to provide more support and opportunities for their students. Through this project, they will tap into the students’ high level of interest in technology and fuel their abilities in STEAM. They will begin restructuring their science curriculum to provide coding and robotics opportunities and to enter the First Lego League competition. Through this project, they will begin to ignite the interest and build the skills of the future scientists and engineers in their classrooms.
