Through this project, students in a 7th Grade History Enrichment Class and an 8th Grade English Class will use primary source documents to research and tell the stories of American who have had important impacts on history but have not been widely recognized. They will submit this information in the form of applications for Virginia roadside markers to the Virginia Department of Historic Resources. Successful applications lead to placement of a foundry-produced commemorative marker on a Virginia State Road, contributing to a more accurate, equitable and representative accounting of history. During the 2020-2021 school year one group of students won the Virginia Black History Month Historic Marker Contest and two groups won the Asian American Pacific Islander Historic Marker Contest.
