Two teaching artists from Young Chicago Authors will work with educators at the Lombard School to run a poetry workshop for 8th grade students. The poetry workshop will focus on helping students to understand their identities in new ways, believe that their stories matter, and gain confidence in sharing their stories through written and spoken poetry. Students will create original poetry and share their work with families and community members during a showcase event. This project will support educators as they develop new ways to incorporate, understand, write, and share poetry in the classroom, empowering students to share their stories in meaningful and powerful ways.
