Katherine Groves will participate in two virtual classes to support her knowledge of the science of reading and structured literacy: a phonological awareness course and a course on the Orton-Gillingham method, an accredited literacy program emphasizing a multisensory, sequential and flexible approach to helping all students become competent and confident readers. This training will prepare her to evaluate and instruct students in areas of phonology, phonics/word recognition, spelling, writing, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. It will also help her school team which has been searching for a research-based system to meet these instructional needs.
