Through this project, Jo Flory and three of her colleagues will form a study group to take an online course from Mindful Schools, an internationally recognized organizational for teacher training on mindfulness, as well as to support each other’s learning and to collaborate on curriculum and instructional design in their classrooms. The educators have already taken the “101: Mindfulness Foundation’s” course which is a prerequisite for the “201: Mindfulness in Classrooms” course. The goal of this project is to integrate mindfulness practices into their district’s 6th-12th grade classroom curriculum to increase students’ well-being, attention and focus on learning during the traumatic time of the COVID-19 pandemic. There is currently no systemic effort at the secondary level in their district to use mindfulness practices in the classroom. Through this work, Jo and her colleagues seek to show the value of such practices to support their integration at the secondary level.
