Jana Dean

Jana Dean and her partner will work together to lead the project Strengthening Number Talks for Multilingual Learners, which will help teachers of Multilingual Learners (MLLs) cultivate mathematical agency by marrying language support strategies and structures with Number Talks. Number Talks are ten-minute oral language routines during which students work together with support from their teacher to visualize mathematical ideas. About a quarter of the students at Jana’s school are MLLs and would greatly benefit from the introduction of Number Talks in the classroom. Jana and her partner will train a team of teachers to use Number Talks and hope to eventually present at conferences and share these skills with their networks.
