The goal of this project is to expose elementary school students to computer science by creating a Professional Learning Community of 15 elementary school educators to prepare and teach Computer Science activities in their schools. The educators chosen for participation in this program will come primarily from schools with high percentages of students of color and students eligible for free and reduced-price lunch. The group will meet each month from October through April of the 2022-23 school year to receive professional development supporting them in preparing and presenting at a high level of proficiency different computer science lessons each month as well as to reflect on the experience of the past month. High school students will assist with the training, receiving Student Service Learning credit required for a diploma in the state of Maryland. At the conclusion of the project, the lesson plans developed by the educators will be cataloged and made available to other educators within the district.
