Florence Scott will travel to Anaheim, CA, to attend and present at the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) Annual Convention and the ALAN (Assembly on Literature for Adolescents of NCTE) Workshop. The ALAN workshop is dedicated to the Advancement of Young Adult Literature, a genre of texts about which Florence receives a lot of push-back from the community. She is seeking opportunities to learn how to advance equity and non-censorship on her small, conservative island. After the conference and workshop, Florence plans to share the resources she has collected with her colleagues and to begin an after-school book club reading young adult literature with her 6th-12th graders.
