This grant will support Waiʻanae Intermediateʻs Keawaʻula project, by providing support for buses to transport students eight times in the next year to an acre of land which students have reclaimed over the past six years, by moving invasive plant species and planting native and endangered plant species. This work has become an important focus for the school’s mission and curriculum, revitalizing and reconnecting students to ancestral places and ancestral knowledge. This project supports a range of learners by providing hands-on activities such as invasive removal, observations of plants, water and soil testing, data collecting, and engagement with Makahiki games and art.
