This project would support the creation of a STEAM playground where high school students enrolled in dual credit Early Childhood Education courses and interested in becoming educators can create outdoor STEAM learning environments and implement open-ended exploration research. Through this project, high school students will expand their own science, math, technology and engineering skills as they prepare an environment and plan a lesson regarding gardening or simple machines. Many of the assignments will be project-based, allowing high school students to capitalize on their strengths and pursue their interests. They can utilize the supplemental STEAM curriculum readings purchased with the grants to further their research and understanding of class concepts.
