The NEA Foundation Names New Chair, Two Board Members: The NEA Foundation today announced the election of a new chair, Lauri J. Fitz-Pegado, a partner at The Livingston Group, LLC and the former Assistant Secretary at the Department of Commerce in the Clinton Administration, and the appointment of two new members: Lori McFarling, Divisional Marketing Officer for Discovery Education & Domestic Distribution at Discovery Communications, and Kirk Michel, President and Founder of KEMA Advisors, Inc., an investment-banking firm that provides expertise in a wide range of financial disciplines.

The NEA Foundation Booth Attracts More than 3,000 Delegates: H. McFrazier, a member of UTLA from Los Angeles, CA and Teresa Brady, a member of Duval Teachers United from Jacksonville, FL, were randomly selected from among more than 3,000 delegates who swiped their badges for a chance to win a digital camera from the NEA Foundation during the NEA Expo held July 1-3.

The NEA Foundation Lists 38 New Grantees: The NEA Foundation today released the names of public educators selected to receive 38 grants, totaling $154,000, to fund work to improve public education for students nationwide. The grants, which support educators' ideas to improve teaching and learning or professional development efforts, will be administered over the next year.

The NEA Foundation Announces the 2008 Recipients of The Horace Mann Awards for Teaching Excellence: As recipients, these five educators will receive a personal gift of $10,000 from The Horace Mann Companies. In addition, one of these five will be selected to receive The NEA Member Benefits Award for Teaching Excellence and a additional $25,000. The NEA Foundation Appoints Ambassador to Board: The NEA Foundation today announced the appointment of Ambassador Pete Romero to its Board of Directors. Ambassador Romero is the CEO of Experior Advisory, teaches at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and served 24 years as a career diplomat in the U.S. State Department. Summer 2007 Student Achievement Grants and Learning & Leadership Grants Announced: The NEA Foundation congratulates the newest recipients of Student Achievement Grants, which support project-based learning, and Learning & Leadership Grants, which fund professional development. (June 15)

The NEA Foundation Welcomes Three New Staff Members: Since May, the NEA Foundation has added three new staff members to its roster. (June 12)

The NEA Foundation Appoints New Member to Board of Directors: The NEA Foundation announces the appointment of Kevin Welner, award-winning researcher, author and Associate Professor at the University of Colorado, to its Board of Directors. (June 7)

The NEA Foundation Announces the Recipients of the 2007 Fine Arts Grants: Administered on behalf of the NEA, these grants provide $2,000 to enable fine arts teachers to create and implement fine arts programs that promote learning among students at risk of school failure. (June 7)

The NEA Foundation Welcomes New Director of Programs: The NEA Foundation announces William “Bill” Miles, Ed.D., as its new Director of Programs.  Miles joins the Foundation from the Public Education Network (PEN), where he was Director of Policy and Programs. (June 6)

The NEA Foundation Announces the Recipients of the 2007 Drop Everything and Read Bookshelf Awards: In celebration of National Drop Everything And Read (D.E.A.R.) Day, The NEA Foundation and the National Education Association (NEA) offer the D.E.A.R. Bookshelf Awards. (April 12)

The NEA Foundation's 12th Annual Salute to Excellence in Education Gala: Nearly 1,000 education and corporate leaders and government officials gathered February 8 at the National Building Museum to celebrate outstanding contributions to public education. (February 9)
